Pam Hahn and Aimi Siejak
The First Place Winner of CSO's 2025 Youth Competition answered some questions this month to introduce herself to us. Aimi Siejak is currently a 10th grade student at Desert Vista High School in Ahwatukee and studies with Steven Moeckel.
Q: When did you start playing the violin, and what made you choose it?
A: I started playing the violin at the age of 3, and my mom chose it for me, when my brother chose the violin. Although I didn't have much of an immediate choice, it was definitely the right choice for me.
Q: In the November 9 "Cheers to Youth!" concert, you'll be playing a very difficult piece by Henryk Wieniawski, which you auditioned for our competition with. Why did you choose his Polonaise de Concert?
A: The Polonaise is a piece my teacher assigned to me, because of my previous piece where he was impressed with my 10ths. I'm generally also someone who will enjoy a virtuosic piece, and this Polonaise is nothing short of that. Although it's difficult, it is extremely fun to play and I have a wonderful time just playing the piece.
Q: It's clear that you spend a lot of time practicing your violin. What do you like to do for fun?
A: I honestly do a bit of everything. From rollerblading, painting, sewing, hanging out with friends & family - and sticking with the musical theme - I love chamber music, so sight reading duets, trios and quartets with friends is my favorite pastime. I also am a huge advocate for mental health, so participating in my school's clubs in that subject keeps me pretty occupied as well!
